NGC 4274 is a barred spiral galaxy with an active galactic nucleus from Hubble type SBab in the constellation Coma Berenices the northern sky . It is an estimated 41 million light years from the Milky Way and about 85,000 light years in diameter. It is the brightest galaxy in the NGC 4274 group ( LGG 279 ) and is considered a member of the Coma galaxy cluster .
In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4278 , NGC 4283 , NGC 4286 , IC 779 .

The type IIP supernova SN 1999ev was observed here.

The object was discovered on March 13, 1785 by William Herschel .
