NGC 4294 is a spiral dwarf galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type SBc in the constellation Virgo in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 13 million light years from the Milky Way and about 15,000 light years in diameter. It probably forms an interacting pair with NGC 4299 . It is listed as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster under catalog number VCC 465 . The galaxies IC 3173 , IC 3192 , IC 3196 , IC 3209 are in the same area of ​​the sky .

The object was discovered on March 15, 1784 by the astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
