NGC 4305 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sa in the constellation Virgo north of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 82 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 55,000 light-years across. Together with NGC 4306 , it forms the gravitationally bound galaxy pair Holm 381 or KPG 333 . Together with eight other galaxies, it is part of the NGC 4461 group ( LGG 286 ) and is listed as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster under catalog number VCC 522 .

In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4267 , IC 3233 , IC 3246 , IC 3258 .

The object was discovered by John Herschel on May 2, 1829 .
