NGC 4306 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type SB0 in the constellation Virgo north of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 86 million light years from the Milky Way and about 40,000 light years in diameter. Together with NGC 4305 , it forms the gravitationally bound galaxy pair Holm 381 or KPG 333 . Together with eight other galaxies, it is part of the NGC 4461 group ( LGG 286 ) and is listed as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster under catalog number VCC 523 .

In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4267 , IC 3233 , IC 3246 , IC 3258 .

The object was discovered on April 16, 1865 by Heinrich Louis d'Arrest .
