NGC 4300 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sa in the constellation Virgo the northern sky . It is estimated to be 99 million light years from the Milky Way . The galaxy is listed under catalog number VVC 492 as part of the Virgo galaxy cluster .

The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on April 17, 1786 .
