NGC 4277 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type SB0 / a in the constellation Virgo north of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 95 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 30,000 ly. The galaxy is listed under catalog number VVC 386 as part of the Virgo Galaxy Cluster.
Together with NGC 4259 , NGC 4268 , NGC 4270 , NGC 4273 , NGC 4281 and IC 3153 , it forms the galaxy group Holm 368 .

The object was discovered on April 17, 1786 by the astronomer William Herschel .
