NGC 4279 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 / a in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 190 million light years from the Milky Way and about 60,000 light years in diameter .
The galaxies NGC 4263 and NGC 4285 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on May 6, 1886 .
