NGC 4273 is a barred spiral galaxy with extensive star formation from Hubble type SBc in the constellation Virgo north of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 103 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 70,000 light years in diameter. The galaxy is listed under catalog number VVC 382 as part of the Virgo galaxy cluster .
Together with NGC 4259 , NGC 4268 , NGC 4270 , NGC 4277 , NGC 4281 and IC 3153 , it forms the galaxy group Holm 368 .

The supernovae SN 1936A, SN 1936A (Type-IIP) and SN 2008N (Type-II) were observed here.

The object was discovered by William Herschel on April 17, 1786 .
