NGC 4256 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sb in the constellation Draco the northern sky . It is estimated to be 118 million light years from the Milky Way and about 150,000 light years across. Together with NGC 4108 , NGC 4210 , NGC 4221 , NGC 4332 , NGC 4513 and PGC 38461 , it forms the NGC 4256 group ( LGG 277 ).
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on March 20, 1790 .
