NGC 4262 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type I / SB0 in the constellation Coma Berenices the northern sky . It is estimated to be 58 million light years from the Milky Way and about 30,000 light years across. An observation in the ultraviolet range using GALEX shows a surrounding ring. It is listed as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster under the catalog name VCC 355 .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4254 , NGC 4298 , NGC 4302 , IC 781 .
The object was discovered on April 8, 1784 by the astronomer William Herschel using his 18.7-inch mirror telescope.
