NGC 4287 is a spiral galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type Sb in the constellation Virgo north of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 93 million light years from the Milky Way and about 30,000 ly in diameter. The galaxy is listed as a member of the Virgo Galaxy Cluster under catalog number VVC 434 .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4266 , NGC 4281 , NGC 4282 , IC 782 .
The object was discovered by Albert Marth on May 26, 1864 .
