NGC 4276 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBc with extensive star formation regions in the constellation Virgo north of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 114 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 55,000 light years in diameter. The galaxy is considered a member of the 29 galaxies counting NGC 4235 group ( LGG 281 ). It is also listed under catalog number VCC 393 as part of the Virgo galaxy cluster , but is too far away for that.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4247 , IC 3131 , IC 3148 , IC 3150 .
The object was discovered in 1881 by Christian August Friedrich Peters .
