NGC 4288 is a spiral dwarf galaxy of the Hubble type SBcd with extensive star formation areas in the constellation Hounds in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 26 million light years from the Milky Way and about 15,000 light years in diameter. Together with PGC 39841 (also NGC 4288A ), it forms the optical galaxy pair Holm 371 and is considered a member of the NGC 4051 group ( LGG 269 ).
The object was discovered on April 10, 1788 by the astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
