NGC 4245 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type SB0 / a with extensive star formation areas in the constellation Coma Berenices in the northern sky . It is an estimated 39 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 35,000 light-years across. Together with 18 other galaxies, it forms the NGC 4274 group ( LGG 279 ).
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4253 , NGC 4274 , NGC 4278 , IC 779 .
The object was discovered on March 13, 1785 by the astronomer William Herschel with the help of his 18.7 inch telescope.
