NGC 4226 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sa in the constellation Canes Venatici on the northern sky . It is an estimated 333 million light years from the Milky Way and about 120,000 light years in diameter. Together with NGC 4217 , it forms the optical pair of galaxies Holm 354 .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4231 , NGC 4232 , NGC 4248 , NGC 4258 .
The type II supernova SN 2008bn were observed here.
The object was discovered on March 19, 1828 by John Herschel .
