NGC 4224 is a spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type Sa in the constellation Virgo in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 113 million light years from the Milky Way and about 85,000 light years in diameter. It is listed as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster under catalog number VCC 199 .
The galaxies NGC 4233 , NGC 4235 , NGC 4246 , NGC 4247 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by William Herschel on April 13, 1784 .
