NGC 4215 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 / a in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 86 million light years from the Milky Way and about 45,000 light years across. It is listed as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster under catalog number VCC 167 .
The galaxies NGC 4197 , NGC 4223 , NGC 4241 , IC 773 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on April 13, 1784 .
