NGC 4218 is a spiral dwarf galaxy of the Hubble type Sa in the constellation Hounds in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 35 million light years from the Milky Way and about 10,000 light years across . The galaxy is part of the Ursa Major Galaxy Cluster and a member of the NGC 4051 group ( LGG 269 ).
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4220 , NGC 4231 , NGC 4232 , NGC 4248 .
The object was discovered March 9, 1788 by William Herschel .
