Ursa Major Galaxy Clusters

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ursa Major Galaxy Cluster ( English Ursa Major Cluster , UMa I ClG) is a galaxy cluster in the Virgo Supercluster .

The galaxy cluster is rich in spiral galaxies. Some of its largest member galaxies are NGC 3631 , NGC 3953 and Messier 109 , these together with a number of smaller galaxies form the M109 group named after the latter. NGC 3726 , NGC 3938 , NGC 4051 and other galaxies make up the Ursa Major South Group.

The Ursa Major Galaxy Cluster is about 18.6 mega parsecs (about 60 million light years) from Earth. Its luminosity is about 30% of that of the Virgo galaxy cluster , which is also located in the Virgo supercluster, but its mass is only 5% of that of the Virgo galaxy cluster.
