John Donald Garner

John Donald Garner CMG CVO (born April 15, 1931 ) is a British diplomat .

Life

John Donald Garner was sent to Afghanistan by the Margaret Thatcher government in 1981 as ambassador , replacing Norman Hillier-Fry . His tenure, which lasted until 1984, was at the time of the Soviet-Afghan War . Charles Drace-Francis succeeded him in Afghanistan. Subsequently, from 1984 Garner was dispatched as British High Commissioner to the West African Gambia , as the successor to David Francis Battye Le Breton . There his tenure lasted until 1987, he was replaced by Alec Ibbott .

After retiring as ambassador, Garner was appointed director of The Green Freehold Limited from 1993 to 2006 and from 2008 .

Garner is the son of Ronald Garner and Doris Ethel Garner (née Norton). He is married to Karen Maria Conway and has two children.
