NGC 4318 is an elliptical dwarf galaxy from the Hubble type E3 in the constellation Virgo to the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 52 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 10,000 light-years across. The galaxy is listed under catalog number VCC 575 as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4356 , IC 3266 , IC 3271 , IC 3273 .
The object was discovered on January 18, 1828 by John Herschel .
