Bernard Antochewicz

Bernard Antochewicz (born June 14, 1931 in Działdowo , † March 6, 1997 in Breslau ) was a Polish poet and translator from German .

Life

During the German occupation of Poland , Antochewicz lived in Działdowo and attended the German school there. After the Second World War he lived in Wąbrzeźno . When he finished elementary school, he moved to Lower Silesia with his parents and attended high school in Karpacz . He joined the Association of Polish Youth ( Związek Młodzieży Polskiej ) in 1949 and then the Association of Socialist Youth ( Związek Młodzieży Socjalistycznej ) and the Polska Zjednoczona Partia Robotnicza , of which he remained a member until 1984. He began studying Polish and German in 1952 as a freelance guest student at the University of Breslau . As a poet he made his debut in 1954 with the poem Dyngus , which was published in the Wrocławski Tygodnik Katolicki . He worked with this newspaper until 1956. After obtaining his master's degree , he worked as a teacher in Wroclaw. In addition, he published his literary works in magazines such as Odra, Poezja and Nurt . He joined the Association of Polish Writers in 1968. After his retirement in 1969, he continued his literary work and his work as a translator from German. In 1984 he became a member of the Association of German-Language Translators and in 1990 of the Association of Polish Translators.
