NGC 4173 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Scd in the constellation Coma Berenices the northern sky . It is estimated to be 50 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 75,000 ly.
Together with NGC 4169 , NGC 4174 and NGC 4175 , it forms the Hickson Compact Group 61.

The object was discovered on April 11, 1785 by the German-British astronomer William Herschel .
