NGC 4174 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0-a in the constellation Haar der Berenike in the northern sky . It is estimated that 180 million light-years from the Milky Way away and has a diameter of about 40,000 light years. Together with NGC 4169 , NGC 4173 and NGC 4175 , it forms an optical quartet in English The Box is called.

The object was discovered on April 11, 1785 by the German-British astronomer William Herschel .
