NGC 4159 is a spiral galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type Sbc in the constellation Giraffe in the northern sky . It is an estimated 84 million light years from the Milky Way and about 30,000 light years across. It is a member of the eleven galaxies NGC 4589 group ( LGG 284 ).
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on December 12, 1797 .
