NGC 4142 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBcd in the constellation Great Bear in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 55 million light years from the Milky Way .
The object was discovered on April 26, 1789 by the British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
