NGC 4131 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type SB0 / a with an active galaxy core in the constellation Coma Berenices in the northern sky . It is an estimated 171 million light years from the Milky Way and is 70,000 light years across. Together with NGC 4132 and NGC 4134 , it forms the galaxy trio Holm 339 and is a member of the NGC 4185 group ( LGG 276 ).
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on April 11, 1785 .
