NGC 4116 is an active bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBc with extensive star formation regions in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 54 million light years from the Milky Way and about 65,000 light years across. Together with NGC 4123 it forms the gravitationally bound galaxy pair KPG 322 and with PGC 3121899 an optical pair. She is also considered a member of the NGC 4123 group ( LGG 275 ).
The object was discovered by Bindon Blood Stoney on March 6, 1851 .
