NGC 4118 is a lens-shaped dwarf galaxy with an active galaxy core of the Hubble type S0 / a in the constellation Hounds in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 31 million light years from the Milky Way and> 10,000 light years in diameter. Together with NGC 4117, it forms the gravitationally bound galaxy pair Holm 334 .
In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4109 , NGC 4111 , NGC 4138 , NGC 4143 .

The object was discovered by RJ Mitchell on April 20, 1857 .
