NGC 4096 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBc with extensive star formation areas in the constellation Great Bear in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 28 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 50,000 light-years across. The galaxy is considered a member of the NGC 4051 group ( LGG 269 ).
The supernovae SN 1960H (Type Ia / P) and SN 2014bi (Type IIP) were observed here.
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on March 9, 1788 .
