NGC 4168 is an E2-type elliptical galaxy and is located in the Virgo Cluster (border area of the constellations Virgo and the Hair of Berenice), which is an estimated 99 million light years from the Milky Way .
The galaxy is listed under VCC 0049 as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster . The object was discovered on April 8, 1784 by William Herschel .
