NGC 2516 is an I3r Open Cluster in the constellation Kiel des Schiff in the southern sky . It has an apparent magnitude of 3.8 mag and a diameter of 22 arc minutes . The cluster is about 1,300 light years from the solar system and about 12 light years in diameter . Its age is estimated to be 135 million years.
The object was discovered in 1751 by the French astronomer Nicolas Louis de Lacaille .
