NGC 7814 is a spiral galaxy from the Hubble type Sab and is located in the vicinity of the star Algenib (γ Pegasi) in the constellation Pegasus north of the celestial equator . The galaxy has an angular extent of 5.5 '× 2.3' and an apparent magnitude of 10.8 mag. It is around 53 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 80,000 light years . The object is a so-called edge-on galaxy , which means that we can see it exactly at the edge. The spiral arms appear here only as dark dusty clouds, illuminated by the bright center of the galaxy. Because of its similarity to Messier 104 , NGC 7814 is also known as the " Little Sombrero Galaxy ".

The galaxy is the namesake of the NGC-7814 group. a. still NGC 14 , PGC 38 , PGC 332 and PGC 889 .

The object was discovered on October 8, 1784 by Wilhelm Herschel .
