NGC 7817 is a spiral galaxy of the Hubble type Sbc and is located about 5 ° north of the star Algenib (γ Pegasi) in the constellation Pegasus in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 110 million light years from the Milky Way and about 120,000 light years in diameter . The galaxy is believed to be the gravitational partner of NGC 7798 .
The object was on September 15, 1784 by Wilhelm Herschel .
