NGC 2492 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E / S0 in the constellation Gemini on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 301 million light years from the Milky Way and about 90,000 light years in diameter.
The galaxies NGC 2490 , IC 484 , IC 485 , IC 2213 are in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by John Herschel on December 24, 1827 .
