NGC 2480 is a bar-spiral galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type SBcd in the constellation Gemini on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 102 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 40,000 ly. It is likely to form a bound galaxy pair with NGC 2481 .
The galaxy IC 481 is still in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by RJ Mitchell on February 1, 1856 .
