NGC 2462 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type S in the constellation Lynx at the northern sky . It is an estimated 387 million light years from the Milky Way and about 45,000 light years across .
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 2458 , NGC 2463 , NGC 2469 , NGC 2473 , among others .
The object was discovered by Bindon Blood Stoney on February 20, 1851 and added to the New General Catalog by Johan Ludvig Emil Dreyer .
