NGC 2460 is a spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type Sab in the constellation Giraffe in the northern sky . It is an estimated 68 million light years from the Milky Way and about 50,000 light years in diameter . It probably forms a bound galaxy pair with IC 2209 .
Together with IC 2209, PGC 22508 , PGC 22524 and PGC 22561 it forms the small NGC 2460 group .
The object was discovered on August 11, 1882 by the astronomer Ernst Wilhelm Leberecht Tempel with a 28 cm telescope.
