NGC 2431 = NGC 2436 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBa in the constellation Lynx in the northern sky . It is an estimated 256 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 70,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 2426 and NGC 2429 .
The Type Ic supernova SN 2011bh was observed here.
The object was discovered by William Herschel on March 17, 1790 .
