NGC 2427 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBdm in the constellation Puppis in the southern sky . It is around 33 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 65,000 light years .
The object was discovered on March 1, 1835 by the astronomer John Herschel with a 48 cm telescope.
