NGC 2426 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E in the constellation Lynx at the northern sky . It is an estimated 256 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 85,000 light years in diameter. Presumably it forms a gravitationally bound galaxy pair together with NGC 2429 .
In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy NGC 2431 .
The object was discovered on March 10, 1790 by William Herschel .
