NGC 2417 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBbc in the constellation Carina in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 133 million light years from the Milky Way and approximately 120,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy IC 2200 .
The object was discovered by John Herschel on March 8, 1836 .
