NGC 2434 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E1 in the constellation Volans at the southern sky . It is estimated to be 53 million light years from the Milky Way and about 50,000 light years in diameter. Together with three other galaxies, it forms the NGC 2442 group or LGG 10 .
The object was discovered by John Herschel on December 23, 1834 .
