NGC 2486 is a bar-spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type SBb in the constellation Gemini on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 205 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 170,000 ly. It is likely to form a bound galaxy pair with NGC 2487 .
The galaxies NGC 2498 , IC 481 , IC 482 are still in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Albert Marth on November 7, 1864 .
