NGC 2490 is a compact galaxy of Hubble type C in the constellation Gemini on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 300 million light years from the Milky Way and about 55,000 light years in diameter.
The galaxies NGC 2492 , IC 484 , IC 485 , IC 2213 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by RJ Mitchell on February 14, 1857 .
