NGC 2498 is a bar-spiral galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type SBa in the constellation Gemini on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 208 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 70,000 ly.
The galaxies NGC 2486 , NGC 2487 , IC 481 , IC 482 are still in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Édouard Stephan on January 19, 1885 .
