IC 789 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type SB0 in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 327 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 100,000 ly. The galaxy is listed under catalog number VCC 889 as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster .
The galaxies NGC 4366 , NGC 4370 , NGC 4416 , IC 3322 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on May 4, 1893 .
