IC 797 is a bar-spiral galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type SBc in the constellation Coma Berenices in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 92 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 35,000 ly. The galaxy is listed as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster under catalog number VCC 1393 . The galaxies NGC 4523 , IC 3435 , IC 3453 , IC 3462 are located in the same area of ​​the sky .

The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on April 22, 1892 .
