NGC 4489 is an elliptical dwarf galaxy of the Hubble type E1 in the constellation Coma Berenices in the northern sky . It is an estimated 41 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 20,000 ly. The galaxy is listed as a member of the Virgo Galaxy Cluster under catalog number VCC 1321 .
The galaxies NGC 4498 , NGC 4502 , IC 796 , IC 3448 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on March 21, 1784 .
