NGC 4480 is a bar-spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type SBc in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 105 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 75,000 ly. The galaxy is listed under catalog number VCC 1290 as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster .
The galaxies NGC 4412 , NGC 4457 , NGC 4496 , NGC 4505 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on February 2, 1786 .
